Dear NCPS Students & Families:

 

We hope you are having a great week! Here are some highlights from our weekly letter:

Congratulations to Northumberland Middle School’s Students of the Month!!!


These students have been selected by their teachers for always being POLITE.  The NMS focus each month centers around PRIDE expectations and incentives.  Next month, we will focus on R for Respect.

9/11 Remembrance at NES

On Wednesday, September 11, Northumberland Elementary School held a special ceremony in remembrance of the victims from 9/11. School Resource Officer Keith Wilson and Assistant Principal Lance Reynolds presented the Freedom Flag.

Join Our Community for a Commonwealth Conversation Kicked Off by First Lady of Virginia and Award-Winning Social Psychologist Dr. Jonathan Haidt!

On the evening of September 19, the First Lady of Virginia Suzanne S. Youngkin and award-winning social psychologist, author, and researcher Dr. Jonathan Haidt will convene a fireside chat to discuss the findings of Haidt’s book The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness and how it informs our communities and schools in limiting social media and cell phone use to help restore childhood and play. The event will be broadcasted live to all participating schools.

Participating schools can use the chat as an opportunity to facilitate community conversations with parents, educators, students, and families to create best practices for the use of cell phones and social media both in and out of school. Each school will receive a facilitator’s guide to the event, including materials and technical guidance.

Event Details

  • EVENT: Fireside Chat with the First Lady of Virginia and Author and Researcher Dr. Jonathan Haidt – Live Broadcast to Virginia’s Schools  

  • DATE: September 19, 2024  

  • TIME: 7 – 9 p.m. 

    • 7 – 8 p.m.: The First Lady and Dr. Haidt will convene a fireside chat to discuss the findings of The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness and how it informs our communities and schools in limiting social media and cell phone use to restore childhood and play.
