Northumberland County Public Schools’ High School Principal Dr. Travis Burns has been
named the 2025 Outstanding High School Principal of Virginia by a panel of principals and
superintendents representing the Principal Awards Committee of the Virginia Association of Secondary
School Principals (VASSP).
Burns has been an educator for 25 years and principal at Northumberland High School since 2013. He
previously served as a middle school principal in the Gloucester County Public Schools. Principal Awards
Committee Chair Dr. Carol Robinson said, “Dr. Burns refers to himself as a ‘cross pollinator,’ which
became evident as he described the many ways that he brings together the strengths, knowledge,
and skills of others for the betterment of his students and schools.”
