Summer Break Doesn't Mean a Break from Cyber Safety!
School is soon coming to an end for the 2024-2025 season, and summer is right around the corner. Even though classes will soon be out, the digital world keeps spinning, so cybersecurity is still very important.

Think about it like this: your online accounts and personal information are like the keys to your house. During the school year, you're constantly locking and unlocking the door, being mindful of who you let in. Summer break is like going on a vacation, you wouldn't just leave all the doors and windows wide open while you're away, would you?

Just like you secure your home before a trip, you need to secure your digital home before diving into summer fun. Cybercriminals are opportunistic and look for easy targets. Leaving your digital life unprotected is like hanging a welcome sign for them, inviting them to wreck chaos while you're away. By practicing good cybersecurity habits, like using strong passwords and being cautious of suspicious links (this includes text messages, you may have been getting as many "You have a new EZ Pass bill available" messages as I have lately), you're metaphorically locking your digital doors and windows. This helps keep your personal information safe while you enjoy a well deserved break.

Be mindful of unsolicited emails, messages, or calls asking for personal information. Legitimate organizations well never ask you for your password, social security number, or credit card details. Think carefully before sharing information online such as your vacation plans, personal details, or location information as these can all be used by cybercriminals. Avoid using public Wi-Fi as they are often unsecured and information can be intercepted by hackers. Before you head out for summer, take a  few moments to secure your digital home. A small effort can go a long way to provide peace of mind!
